Taking a major policy initiative for agriculture startups, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar made several important announcements. At the Agri Startup Conference organized on the second day of the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan at Pusa Mela Ground, Delhi, Tomar said that a high-level steering committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Agriculture Minister for overall guidance of the agriculture startup ecosystem. An accelerator program of Rs 500 crore will be started to take forward the successful initiatives of Agri startups and to popularize them.
Amid a large gathering of Agri startup representatives, Union Minister Tomar announced that an executive committee would be constituted under the chairmanship of the Agriculture Secretary, with relevant agencies like DARE, DPIIT, agriculture incubators and knowledge partners, agricultural universities, research institutes, key investors Top level officials of other stakeholders will be involved. Also, a separate division will be created in the Ministry of Agriculture headed by Joint Secretary for Agriculture Startups. The cell will also be created to work as a single window agency to facilitate all linkages required by agri startups with certification agencies, financial institutions, agricultural universities etc. Tomar said that a marketing linkage will be created with organizations like E-NAM and Nafed to meet the market needs of the products developed by Agri startups. A portal will also be developed to create a database for all agriculture startups and monitor their growth.
Tomar said that to promote startups in the agriculture sector, efforts will be made to organize Agri Startup Conclave at the national and regional level. Tomar said that it has been the continuous effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last eight years that the strength of the country should emerge and come on the political stage of the world.
